Forest loss in Switzerland

In 2020, Switzerland had 1.14 Mha of natural forest, extending over 28% of its land area. In 2023, it lost 2.23 kha of natural forest, equivalent to 1.90 Mt of CO₂ emissions.

From 2001 to 2023, Switzerland lost 48.8 kha of tree cover, equivalent to a 3.2% decrease in tree cover since 2000.

Ecosystem Functions and Biodiversity:
Forests provide diverse habitats for both flora and fauna, serve as carbon sinks, and contribute to regulating the water cycle. A decline in natural forest areas can therefore lead to a loss of biodiversity and a reduction in ecosystem functions.

Climate Protection and CO₂ Emissions:
The loss of forested areas reduces the capacity to sequester CO₂. Data indicating that 2.23 hectares of natural forest were lost in 2023—equivalent to approximately 1.90 Mt of CO₂ emissions—suggest that forest loss also plays a role in climate protection. Even though the percentage decline (about 3.2% since 2000) may appear moderate at first glance, the emissions accumulate over time.

We are committed to slowing the decline of our forests by actively investing in nature conservation and reforestation projects.

By doing so, you are not only helping to preserve a vital natural resource in Switzerland but also playing a crucial role in mitigating global climate change. With every small contribution you make, you contribute to a greener future and ensure that our forests are preserved for future generations.

Every Day, Eight Soccer Fields of Settlement Area

Between 2009 and 2018, the settlement area in Switzerland grew by 6 percent, or 181 square kilometers—equivalent to twice the size of Lake Zurich or almost eight football pitches per day. Although growth has slowed compared to previous decades, the impact on low-lying areas remains significant.

To counteract this trend and protect valuable land resources, we plan to purchase land and transform it into nature conservation zones. This strategy seeks to balance urban development with environmental preservation, paving the way for a more sustainable future for Switzerland.

Our Roadmap

Protecting Switzerland’s nature, one parcel at a time

Experience the beauty of Switzerland and join our mission to protect its pristine landscapes. Our goal is to secure and preserve as much land as possible, protecting it from urbanization and ensuring that forests and wildlife can thrive for generations to come.

When you make a contribution by purchasing a symbolic land plot from us, you are supporting our conservation efforts. You will receive a personalized certificate, which includes a unique reference number for your symbolic parcel—representing your contribution to protecting Switzerland’s breathtaking landscapes. As part of this contribution, you will also earn the honorary title of “Alpine Master,” symbolizing your dedication to preserving the natural beauty of Switzerland.

At the moment, we do not yet own land in Switzerland that we can directly allocate symbolically. However, we have developed a clear roadmap to bring this vision to life.

Our Vision for Your Piece of Switzerland

Switzerland is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and premium real estate, but land here is also among the most expensive in the world. To make this dream a reality, we aim to purchase our first piece of Swiss land after receiving approximately 5,000 to 10,000 orders.

Every order you place contributes directly to this goal and helps us move closer to securing a piece of land in Switzerland for conservation purposes. Once the order target has been reached and we have been able to purchase the land, donors can visit and enjoy it. This allows you to experience the natural beauty of Switzerland in person and see the impact of your contribution.

Please note that this is a symbolic purchase, and no legal ownership or property rights are transferred. Together, we can make a lasting difference and protect nature, one parcel at a time.

If we do not reach our ambitious target of at least 5,000 orders by 2030, we will invest the income we have already received in other similar conservation projects. The investments will then be published on our website.
